Cooma Monuments and Public Art 10 - Avenue of Flags

Difficult to photograph, and best seen in real life on a breezy day.
There's always a plaque. Ten points to anyone who locates this one.
Commemorating the thousands of people from Europe and other parts of the world who have come to Australia to work on the Snowy scheme, this avenue of flags is, according to an informative nearby interpretive sign, "central to Cooma's identity". First installed in 1959 to mark ten years from the scheme's inception, the avenue of flags was refurbished and added to in 1999. The line of national flags continues from this main-street facing section around the corner of the park into Bombala Street with the flags of workers who arrived between 1959 and the fiftieth anniversary.
Interesting to note is that on refurbishment, decisions had to be made in terms of flags that had changed since 1959 due to political and other changes. Cooma remains cosmopolitan for a small regional town, and people from other countries continue to come to the town to work both for the hydro scheme and in the tourism industry.
